F@&% Blue Monday

The most depressing day of the year is finally here woo... wait f*ck that!

Blue Monday so affectionately named through no scientific reason but general observations of humanity and trends in society.

January as a whole though does gets such a bad rep. In addition to being the come down from the festive fun period there are a slew of less than happy statistics.

Divorce and family separations are common place, they seem to be more frequent at the start of a year, after "getting through" the holidays. Debt/financial worries increase for individuals & families, with many struggling even for essentials. Sadly, suicide rates traditionally increase also.

To add to this, we have reached the point of the month were the New Years resolutions fall to the way side. The back to work blues officially sink in as normality returns. The weather (at least this side of the equateor) is dark, dull and usually wet.

Ultimately it's like the hangover month, kicking the new year off with a desire to stay on the couch in your pjs and hide from the world. But January doesn't have to be this way, we don't need to put so much pressure on a month and be hyped for failure before we even start.

January isn't the month you must make everything different, everything better by day ten or it’s a failure and those goals are written off till Jan 1st next year. It can be a month like any other, that you quite simply just try. And Blue Monday can be a day we wake up excited, a day we fill with laughter and that we end reflecting on what good has come or learn from the challenges faced.

No one day is perfect, no month, no year or life for that matter. But what this day and month can remind us of, is to take the good with the bad. Sometimes embracing the fact that some days will be harder, it can help us enjoy the good ones that little bit more when they come.

So whether today you jump outta bed with a smile or spend it under your duvet just cause, just remember it's not the end of the road and you are not alone through this journey.
